“AGLOW”

You are warmly invited to our Valentine’s event:

pierced luminary by Lauren Ingalls

“AGLOW”, Saturday, February 9, 6-9 pm.

An intimate, candlelit evening, featuring the luminaries of Philadelphia ceramicist Lauren Ingalls. The artist will be on hand to share how she creates these intricately hand-carved stoneware lanterns. Yanni Papadopolous, West Philly legend and guitarist extraordinaire, will provide live acoustic music. Wear your belly dancing shoes… Enjoy romantic refreshments by glimmering candlelight while browsing our unique collection of handmade gifts. What will illuminate the heart of your Valentine?

the buck stops here…

“U R Deer 2 Me”

…to get his doe a little something pretty.

Here’s our latest Gocco design, an old-fashioned rebus. It has a hand-cut heart shaped doily inside, to write a dear sweet note to someone special.

the hearts inside are handcut two by two.

The two parts are laced together with a satin ribbon. These were fun to make!

Available online or at the shop.

watch out, times square

move over, las vegas.

Baltimore Avenue now has a bit more flash! We got one of those little LED signs for our side window that faces 50th street. We programmed it to display general information about the store, hours, phone number, events, etc. as well as the date and time as a courtesy to those waiting for the trolley on the corner. The screens transition from one to the next in random animated ways.

It has room for quite a bit of text, so we also put in a “quote of the day”. (the current one is by Michaelangelo: “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free”.)

We’re welcoming any suggestions from others! Any positive messages around 20 words or less will be gladly considered. Haikus, poems, riddles, zen koans, words of wisdom, that sort of thing. If we use your message, you get a free gift next time you stop by!

welcome, mr. nutter!

Our new mayor will be inaugurated on Monday!

We’re sending him an office-warming gift: some notecards and a notebook of our new design. Here’s the card we enclosed:

Maybe he will use it to jot down notes for important new policy changes or sweeping reforms, or slip a note of encouragement in with Olivia’s lunch. It’s a great sentiment for a great city!

Notecards are available at the Emporium or online.
