About VIX
VIX Emporium is the next incarnation of 5009 Baltimore Avenue. VIX (with a bar over the V) is the number 5009 in Roman numerals. Our 3-story building is a historic storefront built in the early 1900’s, featuring beautiful built-in cabinetry from the 1940’s, when it was known as J.M. Grumbine Millinery. The original lighting, beveled glass windowpanes and inset mirrors still remain.
This space was also occupied by dress shop MeMe’s Fashions in the 1980’s, and most recently by MiaLou, an “artisan gallery and general store” selling a wide variety of handmade clothing, accessories and gifts. We hope to continue the goal of MiaLou: to connect customers with artists and their handmade goods on a neighborhood level.
We are located at 50th and Baltimore in West Philadelphia’s Cedar Park neighborhood in University City. This diverse and up-and-coming neighborhood is home to communities of many different cultures and origins. Our nearest neighbors include urban fashion boutique Kulture, Wake Up Yoga, restaurants Dahlak, Vientiane and Abbracio, the Satellite Cafe, and Dock Street brewpub and restaurant. We are easily accessible to Center City via public transit - the 34 “green line” trolley goes right to our door.
We hope to serve our community and look forward to seeing you!
