About VIX

VIX Emporium is the next incarnation of 5009 Baltimore Avenue. VIX (with a bar over the V) is the number 5009 in Roman numerals. Our 3-story building is a historic storefront built in the early 1900’s, featuring beautiful built-in cabinetry from when it was known as J.M. Grumbine Millinery. (See this post and this post for more information about Jennie and Margaret Grumbine.)

We hope to continue the goal of MiaLou: to connect customers with artists and their handmade goods on a neighborhood level.

We are located at 50th and Baltimore in West Philadelphia’s Cedar Park neighborhood in University City. This diverse and colorful neighborhood is home to communities of many different cultures and origins. Click here for a video tour of Spruce Hill and Cedar Park, hosted by our own Sean! Our nearest neighbor businesses include Wake Up Yoga, the Firehouse bike shop, Philadelphia Community Acupuncture, restaurants Dahlak, Vientiane, Vietnam Cafe and the Gold Standard, the Satellite Cafe, and Dock Street brewpub. We are easily accessible to Center City via public transit – the 34 “green line” trolley goes right to our door.

We hope to serve our community and look forward to seeing you!

  1. Congratulations! It will be nice to see that beautiful store open again. I hope to help you keep the shelves filled up at VIX!

  2. Wow! Your store is beautiful! Hope things go well and Good Luck!

  3. Hi Emily!

Thanks so much for this opportunity to consign in your shop!

    I really appreciate it!

Your store looks so beautiful! I love the architecture and style… I just wish I could see it in person!

  4. It’s really nice to see the millinery store building being used as a store and not torn down to make room for something else. My great aunts Jennie and Margret Grumbine owned the store when I was a child, I remember going there when I visited Philadelphia.

  5. Vix is fantastic! We’re looking forward to featuring the shop on A Natural Day.
